2010 Chinese Overseas Investment Fair

The second China Overseas Investment Fair (http://www.coifair.org/2010/index_en.asp) will be held in Beijing on Nov 2nd and 3rd this year.  It is being organized by the China Industrial Overseas Development and Planning Association (Association) under the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC, the ministry responsible for approving outbound and inbound investments).

Beijing: The recent labor strikes at the Foxconn and Honda plants have sent shockwaves throughout China. Potentially those actions will affect the operations of domestic companies and multinationals alike.

Employers in China have always found it difficult to understand and manage employment issues. However, the Foxconn and Honda incidents present for employers new challenges that have arisen over the past 2 years, including stricter regulatory requirements, labor shortages, wage increases and rising labor disputes.

TransAsia and Torys Host "Invest in Canada" Symposium

TransAsia Awards Employment Law Scholarships at Northwest University of Politics & Law

Xi'an: On 26th May 10, TransAsia partners Dr. Isabelle Wan, leader of the Employment Law practice, and Ms. Helen Li, were proud to present prizes to  20 high achieving law students at a ceremony held at the Northwest University of Politics & Law.

The scholarship aims to identify, encourage and reward academic and overall excellence by granting 1 first-place, 3 second-place,  6 third-place scholarships and 10 encouragement awards, with the ultimate objective of promoting the development of employment law.

Singapore: The Implementing Regulations for the Employment Contract Law of the People's Republic of China  were promulgated by the State Council on 18 September 2008. They comprise 38 provisions, interpreting and supplementing the provisions of the Employment Contract Law and have far reaching implications for the application of the law on current and future employment relationships.
