China HRM Keynote Address by TransAsia

Singapore: China HRM, a one-day international conference focused on China's rapidly transforming human resources (HR) landscape, provides foreign companies with an opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of HR practices nationwide and across different provinces in China. Attendees at this year's conference included HR directors and managers, HR consultants, tax advisors, legal counsel, CEOs, CFOs, COOs, and managing directors of companies with workforces in China.
Isabelle Wan presented the keynote address for this year's China HRM conference. Her presentation highlighted the most recent changes to China's employment law regime and included the following key topics:

  • The hierarchy of central versus local PRC labor laws and regulations;
  • The preparation of effective employment contracts and employee handbooks;
  • Introduction to China's working hours systems, including recently implemented local systems for part-time employees in Beijing and Shanghai;
  • Legal requirements for payment of regular and overtime salary;
  • Employers' obligations and liabilities when terminating employment contracts;
  • Practical mechanisms for labor dispute resolution; and
  • Case study on the application of China's new rules of evidence on the handling of labor disputes.

Other speakers at the China HRM conference discussed topics including salary structuring and tax planning; HR trends in expatriate and local employee compensation and benefits; the challenges facing HR managers for recruitment and retention; and important tips for understanding cultural differences in the workplace.
