Peking University: Sino-U.S. Seminar on Comparison of Social Insurance Legislation

On 12 and 13 December 2009, Peking University, under the auspices of its Labor and Social Security Law Research Institute, hosted a Sino-U.S. seminar on the Comparison of Social Insurance Legislation. The seminar was jointly convened by Prof. Jia Junling from the Peking University Law School and Prof. Ronald Brown from the University of Hawaii Law School. 

The seminar was attended by various senior government officials and labor and social security law experts and scholars from a number of leading institutions and universities, who used this platform to propose and discuss amendments to the third draft of the Social Insurance Law (currently under official deliberation).

Dr. Isabelle Wan, Senior Partner of TransAsia Lawyers, shared her views through a speech entitled The Social Insurance Rights of Employees from the Perspective of a Legal Practitioner.

Distinguished attendees included:

  • Mr. Zhang Mingqi -  Vice Chairman of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions 
  • Mr. Zhang Shicheng - Vice Director of the Legislative Affairs Commission of the NPC Standing Committee
  • Mr. Peng Gaojian -  Vice Director of the Department of Political, Human Resources and Social Security Law of the Legislative Affairs Office of the State Council
