As part of its commitment to supporting the development of legal education in China, TransAsia offers two annual scholarships to local law students: one of general applicability, and one specific to employment law.
Candidates are selected based on the following criteria:
Exceptional scholarship recipients are also invited to participate in TransAsia's internship program.
TransAsia has awarded its Legal Encouragement Scholarship to students studying law at the East China University of Political Science and Law (Shanghai) since 2007 and the Southwest University of Political Science & Law (Chongqing) since 2010. These scholarships are awarded based on nominations from the head of the law school in which the applicant is enrolled. The scholarships are available in varying amounts, with a maximum of 10 awarded per university each year. Nominated students are requested to sit for a written test and attend an interview.
In 2006, we set up the TransAsia Employment Law Scholarship, which was the first of its kind in China dedicated to this field of study. This scholarship is aimed at encouraging students to strive for and achieve academic and professional excellence, as well as to pursue careers in employment law. Like the general scholarship, it is available in varying amounts with a maximum of 10 scholarships awarded per university each year.
The Employment Law Scholarship is available to students from the following two universities: Peking University (Beijing) and the Northwestern University of Politics and Law (Xi'An).
In addition to the usual materials required by TransAsia, applicants are requested to submit a research essay on an employment law topic of their choice. Topics from the successful candidates to date include:
Applications for the Employment Law Scholarship are generally accepted from August to October, with recipients announced in February. Applications for the General Law Scholarship are accepted in April, with recipients announced in May.
For more information on how and when to apply as well as the application criteria and types of scholarships available, students from the above universities should contact the head of their law school.
