About Dr Wan

As the leader of TransAsia's employment law practice and co-leader of its intellectual property law practice, Dr Wan has 26 years of experience in advising clients on foreign direct investments in China. Dr Wan is the first non-PRC national to serve as a Director of the China Labor Law Studies Association, following her nomination in 1997 by the PRC Ministry of Labor & Social Security (MOLSS), now known as the Ministry of Human Resources & Social Security. In 2006, she was appointed as a Director of the China Social Security Law Research Association, serving in which role as the sole representative from the Hong Kong SAR.

Dr Wan is generally considered by the relevant government agencies as the leading practitioner for employment and social security. She is frequently called upon by them for advice on recent issues and actual cases.

Government Advisory and Pro Bono Work

  • Government Advisory
    • Participated in the drafting of the 2004 Regulations on Labor and Social Security Supervision and the 2008 Employment Contract Law
    • Participated in discussions on the 2008 amendments to the Elderly People's Protection Law (2008).
    • Participated in the drafting of the 2005 PRC Electronic Signature Law (effective 1 April 2005)
    • Participated in the drafting of the 2009 Guiding Opinions on the Protection of Online Commercial Data, as one of three government-appointed experts
    • Participated as a member of 7 delegates from the Mainland at the Inaugural Meeting between senior officials and leading business executives from the Mainland and Taiwan on key employment issues arising from investments by Taiwanese entities on the Mainland
    • Participated in the drafting of various e-commerce regulations and industry standards

Awards

  • Head of TransAsia's employment law practice (awarded by Chambers & Partners as "Law Firm of the Year" for employment law in China for 2010, 2011 and 2013, also voted by China Law & Practice as "PRC Firm of the Year for Labor & Employment" for 2011 – 2013 and by China Business Law Journal as "Law Firm of the Year for Employment & Industrial Relations" in China for 2013 – 2016). The firm was selected as a Tier 1 firm by The Legal 500 Asia Pacific (2012).
  • Voted as one of "Asia's Leading Lawyers" in 2002 and 2004-2017 in the area of PRC employment law (Asia Law & Practice)
  • Winner of the 2003 "China Labor Lawyer of the Year Award"
  • Awarded a Silver Medal in 2004 for her contributions towards the compilation and drafting of China Labor and Social Security Law - Essential Facts Explained (China Labor Law Studies Association)
