About Johnny
Johnny is a senior member of the firm’s Employment team and has extensive experience advising on employment contracts, hiring arrangements, employee handbooks, remuneration plans, termination, overtime and social security issues. Johnny has also assisted various clients to handle crises involving difficult employees, as well as to defend employee claims involving wrongful termination, unpaid wages and other claims.
Johnny also actively works across the technology, media, manufacturing and other highly regulated industries and has assisted various multinational clients in their M&A, joint ventures, direct investments and commercial transactions in China. Prior to joining TransAsia, he worked for Freehills, a leading Australian law firm and TransAsia’s alliance partner.
Recent Projects
- Advised a Nasdaq-listed company on employment issues concerning the acquisition of its subsidiaries in China, including the underpayment of US$ 20 million in social security contributions
- Assisted a renowed manufacturer to resolve more than 300 labor disputes over social security issues, involving more than 40,000 employees
- Advised one of the world’s largest retailers on a dispute regarding social insurance back-payments and administrative penalties amounting to RMB 30 million
- Represented various multinationals, UK and US-listed companies for the termination of their PRC Chief Representatives, senior executives and other employees
- Advised a leading international investment bank on a labor dispute regarding its bonus plan, and the subsequent amendment to the plan affecting hundreds of employees
- Helped advise CNBC on regulatory changes affecting its PRC operations in China
