About Kevin

Kevin‘s practice focuses on foreign investment and cross-border transactions relating to the PRC, including market entry, mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property, licensing, outsourcing and technology transactions. His clients include leading multinational and PRC companies in the heavily regulated media and entertainment, Internet, e-commerce and telecommunication sectors, where Kevin has particular expertise. Kevin also has substantial experience in providing general China legal advice. He has worked as acting legal director for Amazon China, and is currently the outside general counsel for the China Film Group Production Corporation. Kevin was recognized in 2012 by Chambers and Partners as a leading lawyer in China for telecom, media and entertainment work.

  • Acted as JP Morgan’s PRC Counsel for its financing of the privatization of Shanda Interactive (Nasdaq: SNDA)
  • Acted as Zynga’s PRC Counsel for its acquisitions, PRC structuring and licensing deal with Tencent for the distribution of CityVille on Tencent’s platforms
  • Advised Polycom on its telecom services in the PRC
  • Advised Amazon as its PRC counsel across various business lines, including digital publishing, cloud computing, retail, fulfillment, delivery and payments
  • Acted as Electronic Arts' PRC counsel for its US$ 300 million acquisition of Playfish (a leading creator of social network games)
  • Represented Alibaba.com in its US$1b investment by Yahoo!, the largest transaction of its kind in China's Internet sector to date
  • Assisted Bertelsmann in a wide range of PRC investment projects, including the establishment of the first Sino-foreign book distribution joint venture
  • Outside general counsel to the production arm of the China Film Group, regularly providing legal services including the examination of various contracts relating to film and TV drama production
  • Assisted Electronic Arts in its various PRC investments, including its US$ 167 million acquisition of 15% of the common shares in The9 Limited, as well as game licensing, operational and PRC regulatory issues
  • Advised The Walt Disney Company on films and television programs co-produced in China (live action and animated), as well as new media initiatives
  • Advised Nokia on its various PRC operational matters
  • Advised Tiger Global on its investments in various leading PRC Companies, including New Oriental and Joyo.com
  • Represented Oak Pacific Interactive, the parent company of Renren (NYSE: RENN) on its receipt of Softbank’s RMB2.7b investment
  • Negotiated copyright licensing agreements with leading sports publishers throughout Europe, Asia and South America on behalf of Titan Sports (Sports Weekly), the publisher of China's leading sports newspaper
  • Assisted Glu Mobile in its acquisition of a leading PRC mobile games company
  • Advised Gruhner+Jahr, one of the world’s largest magazine publishers, with its PRC M&A activities and other general corporate matters
